A Live Workshop With Britney Shawley
So many of us only really turn to prayer when life gets hard. And when we do, it comes out desperate — begging, pleading, please, please help me.
On the flip side, others of us have been taught the opposite: that asking for anything specific is somehow “less spiritual.”
So we grew quiet. We stepped back from asking at all. And somewhere in that quiet, we lost the sense that prayer does anything.
If either of these feels true for you, please know — there’s nothing wrong with you.
You were never taught the wrong thing on purpose. You just haven’t yet been shown what prayer was actually meant to be: not a plea sent into the distance, but a living conversation with a God who is already close.
A Course in Miracles teaches that prayer is “the greatest gift with which God blessed His Son at his creation” —
not something reserved for emergencies, but the original language of your relationship with God.
Prayer is meant to hold your daily decisions and, over time, carry you all the way home to Him.
Over the years, sincere teachers in the Course community have landed in different places on this — some cautioning against asking for specifics, others encouraging it freely.
It’s understandable that this would feel confusing.
The truth seems to hold both: you’re invited to ask honestly for what you need, and to let every asking gently lead you closer to the one thing you’re really longing for.
This Workshop walks through that fuller teaching with you — slowly, gently, one line of the text at a time.
✦ How to pray in a way that reaches God directly We’ll gently look at the difference between an entreaty and true prayer, and why one seems to fall short while the other truly connects.
✦ Why “this or something greater” changes everything A simple reframe that keeps you specific enough to ask, and open enough to receive something bigger than you knew to ask for.
✦ How to hear the answer — even when it’s not in words God doesn’t speak in language. You’ll learn to recognize His answer as a feeling, a conviction, a synchronicity, or a silence that says more than words could.
✦ A daily practice you can start today A simple pause-and-ask ritual you can carry into any moment of worry, conflict, or decision — so turning to God becomes your first response, not your last resort.
This is for you if you’re a student of A Course in Miracles — new or seasoned — and:
