Week 18

Focus: Embracing the light of God’s Will and laws

Lessons 73–76
73. I will there be light.
74. There is no will but God’s.
75. The light has come.
76. I am under no laws but God’s.

This week’s gathering was deeply nourishing.

These lessons are not just powerful—they’re pivotal.

They mark a shift from preparing the mind to activating it as a living demonstration of light. In our session, we didn’t just study.

We witnessed. We remembered. We softened. We confronted old patterns and allowed the Holy Spirit to gently lift our eyes toward what’s real.

And as always, your contributions made the light shine even brighter.

Let’s walk through what we explored together.

Workbook Lesson Summary

Lesson 73: I Will There Be Light

This lesson was a profound pivot point for many of us. It wasn’t just another nice-sounding affirmation—it was a decision.

A statement of will.

And Jesus is showing us that this will is not just ours—it’s God’s. We share it.

This is a moment when we begin to remember that we are not powerless, floating in a chaotic world.

No—we are powerful creators, sharing the creative Will of God.

And that Will is for light.

Not darkness. Not confusion. Not guilt or fear.

Just light.

We talked about how the ego’s wishes—what Jesus calls “idle wishes”—don’t have creative power.

They can “co-make” illusions, yes. But they are not real, and they are not shared.

That’s the key difference.

“The ego’s wishes isolate. God’s Will unites.”

The ego might whisper, “I want this,” but those wants are rooted in fear, lack, or defense.

And because they aren’t shared, they have no true power.

Whereas God’s Will? It’s shared by everyone.

It’s light.

And when we remember that, we begin to participate in creation rather than illusion.

I shared how this lesson helped me remember that I’m not meant to chase meaning or try to make light happen.

I’m meant to join with the Will of God, which is already within me.

This is not about force—it’s about openness.

“This lesson is not just about understanding that light is good. It’s about realizing that light is what I actually want—and always have.”

💬 What you shared:

Beto said: “This is one of my favorite lessons so far.” He pointed out the line: “The will you share with God has all the power of creation.” We paused on that. All the power of creation. That’s not a small thing. That’s the truth about who we are.

Sue beautifully reminded us: “In the beginning, God said, ‘Let there be light.’” And now, He’s asking us to say it with Him. She helped us see that we’re being invited to step into that divine authority—not in arrogance, but in alignment.

I shared a simple acronym from past conversations: HOE—Heaven on Earth.
The ego “co-makes” illusions. But the Holy Spirit helps us co-create HOE. And this happens not someday, but now, when we say: I will there be light.”

Brendan reflected on how hate is always a projection of self-hatred. People who hate others never realize the hate started within.”

That sparked a deeper realization: choosing light is also choosing for ourselves.

Choosing light heals the inner war that’s projected outward.

LESSON 74: There Is No Will But God’s

This lesson was foundational.

It’s the one Jesus tells us is the central thought toward which all the exercises are leading us.

That means everything we’ve done—every shift in perception, every forgiveness moment, every fear released—has been preparing us for this awareness:

There is no will but God’s.

And because we share His Will, there is no conflict.

This means the split we thought existed between what we want and what God wants—it’s not real.

That battle is over. And in its place is peace.

🔥 What this means in our lives:

When you truly accept this lesson, the war inside your mind begins to quiet.

Because now, we’re no longer trying to juggle the ego’s fearful demands with God’s loving guidance.

We realize:

“I actually want what God wants. Because His Will is mine.”

It’s not a power struggle. It’s a reunion.

This lesson is also where Jesus gives us a powerful protocol for what to do when conflict thoughts arise—and let’s be real: they do come up.

He knows that. He’s not asking for perfection.

He’s asking for honesty and willingness.

Jesus’ Process for Dealing with Conflicting Thoughts:

1.Repeat the idea:

“There is no will but God’s.”
Over and over. Let it become the rhythm of your mind.

  1. Let related thoughts come up:
Thoughts like: “God’s Will is peace.”
“His Will for me is happiness.”
“If God’s Will is love, then love is what I am.”
This is when the Holy Spirit starts adding His voice to your thought system.
  2. When ego thoughts intrude, apply the lesson again:
If doubt, fear, or resistance shows up—just gently say:

“There is no will but God’s.”

  1. Slip past the fear and rest in the stillness beneath.
That peace you feel? That’s not from the world. That’s from Home.

💬 What You Shared:

Joe said something that hit home for many of us:

“God’s Will and my ego’s will are not the same. My soul’s will and God’s Will are.”
YES. That’s the alignment. That’s the clarity.

Johanne added:

“His Will is my will.”
Just that simple. Just that true.

Sue reminded us with her poetic insight:

“He is the giver, creator, light. I am the receiver, the extension of that light.”
And we paused to feel that: we are not striving to create light. We are just allowing it to flow through us.

Leah brought a powerful moment of honesty:

“I realized this week—I kind of like my ego. It’s entertaining.”
And I loved that reflection, because it reminds us that part of healing is owning our patterns—even the ones we’ve used for distraction or self-soothing. There’s no shame. Just the realization: I no longer want to be entertained by what causes me pain.”

LESSON 75: The Light Has Come

This is one of those holy-milestone lessons.

We’ve spent so many days up until now peeling back layers, questioning our perceptions, and learning how to forgive.

And then—this. This moment where Jesus stops us in our tracks and says:

“The light has come.”

Not will come.

Not if you do everything right.

It’s already here. Now.

This is the first lesson in the Workbook that is a pure celebration.

It’s not trying to fix anything. It’s not analyzing our blocks.

It’s declaring: “You are forgiven. You are healed. You are saved and can save. You are welcoming the freedom that’s already yours.”

I remember reading this and feeling like I’d been cracked open.

Not because I had “achieved” anything, but because I finally stopped defending against the truth that had been with me all along.

💛 A Shift from Doing to Receiving

This lesson isn’t about effort—it’s about posture.

It’s about learning how to receive.

We’re not striving to create light—we’re realizing we were created by it. And now we remember.

I said during class:

“We’re not here to force ourselves into light. We’re here to accept it as our inheritance.”

So today, the invitation was simple: celebrate.

Not because your ego is fixed. But because you are no longer identified with it.

📝 A Poem from Beto

As the sun rises and shows the light of a new day,
The birds sing loudly—the arrival of spring.
I, Your Son, who is still as You created him,
Rejoice in the new beginning, the arrival of light.

With whom my light feeds to be the lighthouse,
For I have been healed and accept the power within
To help my brothers as I see them with a different light—Your light.
Thank You, Father. Thank You, Brother Jesus.
Thank You, Holy Spirit.

For I have been reborn in Your light,
To be the love, peace, and joy that I share with You.
For we are all one, from Your Source.
For that I say:
The light has come. I have forgiven the world.

LESSON 76: I Am Under No Laws But God’s

This one got real.

Jesus asked us to get honest about the laws we believe in:

  • Economics
  • Medicine
  • Nutrition
  • The body
  • Social norms
  • Fear

He said: These are not laws. They are madness.

I shared my story of letting go of CrossFit—of seeing how I was using exercise as a form of punishment, not love.

The ego was in charge, not God.

When I let it go, miracles unfolded. I began walking in joy.

Later, I was led back to the gym—but this time through love, not guilt. I now practice yoga, not to control my body, but to bless it.

I also shared how I healed my relationship with food—not by dieting, but by listening to the Holy Spirit.

I stopped chasing weight loss and began nourishing myself with love. And that’s when my body began to transform—because I was loving, not fixing.

“Nutrition isn’t outside the laws of God. But salvation doesn’t come from it—it comes through your decision to love and follow love even in your nutrition decisions.”

💬 Student Reflections:

  • Celeste admitted: This lesson is hard. I don’t know how to give up the world’s laws.” She heard: “You are safe.” Yes, darling. That voice is always the Holy Spirit.
  • Gabby shared how she stopped needing weekly acupuncture. Now she goes only when led, and from joy—not fear.
  • Joe brought up financial fears. We talked about provision through trust—not pressure.
  • Leah reframed fear beautifully: “It’s about accepting something and trying to not protect the body.”

We then explored this soul-stirring question:

“Where am I still placing my salvation outside myself?”

Relationships? Money? Health? Validation? These are idols.

And they fall away when we choose to look within.

Final Reflections

This week, something shifted.

We weren’t just learning—we were remembering.

Remembering that we are not powerless.

That our will is not in conflict with God’s.

That we don’t need to struggle to find the light… because the light has already come.

These lessons invited us into a deeper kind of surrender.

Not a giving up—but a joining with.

A letting go of fear, control, and the laws we made up to feel safe…

And instead, resting in a truth that has always been waiting for us:

There is no will but God’s—and it is our will, too.
The light has come—we need only receive it.
We are under no laws but God’s—which means we are free.

Your insights, your honesty, your willingness to show up and soften—it all matters.

You help make this a space where miracles are not only possible… they’re happening.

Let’s carry that light with us this week.

Let’s let it lead. Let it guide.

Let it remind us of who we are.

Together, we are remembering Heaven.

I’m so grateful to walk beside you.

See you next Wednesday! (and in slack throughout the week 🙂 )

FAQ: Lesson 73 — I Will There Be Light

❓What does it really mean to “will” the light? Am I supposed to feel something or make it happen?

💬 Answer:
To will the light means to choose what is already true—to stop pretending that darkness is your home. It’s not about force. It’s about permission. You’re not trying to manifest or feel something dramatic. You’re simply remembering what God already gave you.

Jesus isn’t asking for effort. He’s offering a reset. When you say “I will there be light,” you’re saying: “I want peace. I’m done with illusion. I choose truth, now.”

❓Why does Jesus sound so certain in this lesson—like “you will succeed today”? What if I don’t?

💬 Answer:
That certainty can feel intimidating, especially if you don’t feel like anything big happened. But Jesus isn’t guilting you—he’s reminding you that truth is inevitable. Light is your inheritance. It can’t not happen. If it doesn’t land today, it’s okay. You’re not failing. You’re layering truth into your mind.

For some, this lesson is the day the sky breaks open. For others, it’s a single drop of water in the soil. Both are valid. Both are sacred. The Course is a daily path of remembering.

❓Is it okay to get curious about fear instead of just swiping it away with a lesson?

💬 Answer:
Yes. In fact, it’s often necessary. If a fear keeps coming back, it’s not just a passing ego whisper—it’s a deep-seated belief that’s asking to be healed. Swiping it away may work in the moment, but true healing sometimes means sitting down with it, seeing where it came from, and asking the Holy Spirit to reinterpret it.

If the fear is repetitive, it’s not a failure. It’s a doorway.

❓How can I tell when a thought is keeping separation alive?

💬 Answer:
Ask: Does this thought help me feel connected to God and my brother—or more alone and afraid?
Separation is sneaky. It often shows up as self-protection, blame, or judgment of others (or yourself). But all it’s doing is maintaining a wall that keeps the light out.

Try this question from class:

How does this thought keep separation alive?
Then bring that thought to the Holy Spirit and say:
Take this from my holy mind. It serves no purpose anymore.

❓I’m afraid of not being a good parent / partner / provider. What does that have to do with “I will there be light”?

💬 Answer:
Those fears come from the ego’s belief that you’re alone and responsible for keeping the world safe. But this lesson is a return to truth—the truth that God is with you, guiding everything. The light you will isn’t just for you—it’s for your family, your relationships, your whole life.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to remember you are not the source of strength—God is.

❓Why does this lesson stir up so many fears and doubts?

💬 Answer:
Because to welcome the light is to confront what blocks it. And often, that means facing old, unconscious beliefs that say you’re unworthy, unsafe, or unloved.

But here’s the miracle: the light never judges you for having those fears. It simply waits to be chosen instead.

❓How do I know if I’m co-making with the ego or co-creating with God?

💬 Answer:
Notice the feeling behind the thought.

  • Ego co-making feels like pressure, control, anxiety, or judgment.

  • God’s co-creation feels like openness, inspiration, peace, and purpose—even when it stretches you.

Ask:

Am I building from fear, or from truth?
Am I trying to protect, or trying to serve?

Let that guide your next step.

❓Is it really possible that my will and God’s will are the same?

💬 Answer:
Yes. And that’s the most healing truth of all. You don’t want pain. You don’t want separation. You never really did. The part of you that longs for light is the part that’s real—and it’s already united with God.

You’ve just been listening to a voice that told you otherwise.

Lesson 74: There Is No Will But God’s

❓I’m confused—if there’s no will but God’s, do I even have a will?

💬 Answer:
Yes, you do—but it’s not separate from God’s. That’s the whole point. The ego made up this idea that you have your own will, like a little island trying to survive alone. But in truth? Your will is God’s Will. It’s not something you have to force—it’s something you remember. So when you say, “There is no will but God’s,” you’re not erasing yourself—you’re coming home to what’s already true.

❓I’m still feeling fear and inner conflict. Does that mean I’m not aligned with God’s Will?

💬 Answer:
Not at all. It just means part of your mind still believes in the ego’s story—and that’s okay. That’s why we practice. This lesson gives you a process to walk through when that conflict shows up:

  1. Repeat the idea: “There is no will but God’s.”

  2. Let related thoughts come—like, “God’s Will is joy,” or “His Will is my happiness.”

  3. When fear or doubt rises, apply the lesson again.

  4. Then gently slip past the noise—into the peace that’s already behind those thoughts.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re learning to hear a different voice.

❓This idea that “failure is impossible”… I want to believe it, but I’m scared. What if I fail?

💬 Answer:
You’re not alone in that. Fear of failure is one of the ego’s favorite tricks. But if your will is God’s—and God’s Will is perfect—then failure literally isn’t possible.

Even when things look like they’ve gone wrong, they haven’t. You’re still exactly where you need to be to remember truth. You are safe in His Will. You can’t fall out of it, and you can’t mess this up.

❓You said the ego is just “making shit up.” That sounds kind of intense—can you explain that?

💬 Answer:
Yes, and honestly—it’s accurate. The ego makes things up: problems, fears, and false beliefs that feel real but aren’t. It builds whole worlds of illusion based on nothing. When you believe those thoughts, it hurts.

But this lesson cuts through all of that. When you repeat, “There is no will but God’s,” you’re stepping out of fiction and into reality. Into what’s real and eternal. And that’s peace.

❓Can I really trust that God’s Will includes abundance, joy, and success? That feels selfish.

💬 Answer:
It only feels selfish because the world taught you to shrink. But the truth is—joy, abundance, and success are part of your divine inheritance. God isn’t asking you to play small. His Will is generosity. His Will is wholeness. His Will is you shining.

And here’s the key: the more you receive, the more you can give. That’s not selfish—that’s service.

❓Sometimes I genuinely like my ego. It’s entertaining. Is that bad?

💬 Answer:
It’s not bad. It’s just something to be honest about. The ego is entertaining—it’s dramatic, witty, and loud. But it’s also exhausting. It spins you in circles and distracts you from peace.

At some point, you’ll realize you don’t actually want that kind of entertainment anymore. You’ll want peace that lasts. And the Holy Spirit’s joy? It’s way deeper. And actually… way more fun.

❓How do I stop trying to control everything and start letting God’s Will guide me?

💬 Answer:
Start by noticing when you’re trying to control. That alone is powerful. Control is fear in disguise. So when you catch it, pause. Say something like:

“God, I don’t want to do this alone. What would You have me think? What would You have me give?”

You don’t have to figure it all out. Just listen, one step at a time. That’s how we begin living from God’s Will—moment by moment.

Lesson 75: The Light Has Come

❓“The light has come”—but what if I don’t feel it?

💬 Answer:
That’s okay. This lesson isn’t asking you to feel light; it’s inviting you to accept that it’s already here. The light has come—it’s not a mood, not an emotion, not a reward for spiritual performance. It’s reality. So if you feel still and joyful, beautiful. If you feel numb or resistant, that’s okay too.

Your willingness to let the truth be true, even when you don’t feel it, is powerful. This lesson is about posturing yourself to receive—not proving anything.

❓What if I read the words and feel resistance or even disbelief?

💬 Answer:
Totally normal. When Jesus says, “The light has come,” it can trigger doubt in the part of us that’s still attached to fear, still protecting the body, still clinging to the past. So if you feel resistance, just be honest about it. Don’t push it down.

Instead, say: “I want to believe this, even if I don’t feel it yet. I’m willing to be shown.” That simple shift is all the Holy Spirit needs to work with.

❓Is it really okay to just “wait and be shown”? Shouldn’t I be doing more?

💬 Answer:
It’s more than okay. It’s exactly what Jesus asks. This lesson teaches us that the light comes when we let go of control—when we release the past, quiet the mind, and simply wait to be shown. No force. No striving.

Vision is a gift of the Holy Spirit. You don’t have to go chasing it. You just need to be open and expectant. You will be shown.

❓I don’t understand how to live as if the light has come. What does that look like?

💬 Answer:
It starts with a simple decision: I want to see differently today. Living as if the light has come doesn’t mean pretending or forcing. It means being willing to see the goodness. To notice beauty. To pause before reacting. To trust that peace is already present—even if your thoughts haven’t fully caught up.

It might look like thanking God before your day even starts. Or pausing in gratitude instead of fear. Or just saying, “The light has come. I trust it’s true—even if I don’t see it yet.”

❓Jesus says this is the “end of the long dream of disaster.” But my life still feels messy. What do I do with that?

💬 Answer:
That line is so powerful—and I know it can feel like a stretch when you’re still in a process. But this doesn’t mean your circumstances are instantly perfect. It means that you’re no longer trapped in the belief that darkness is your truth.

This lesson is a pivot point. You’re not denying your challenges—you’re remembering they’re not what defines you. The light has come, and that means the story of fear has already ended. We’re just catching up to that reality now.

❓How can I stay in this awareness? I feel it during class, but then I lose it in daily life.

💬 Answer:
This is why practice matters. The light has come—but you’re still training your mind to remember that. That’s why Jesus gives us tools like repetition, gratitude, and gentle focus. When you drift, you don’t need to start over. Just say:

“The light has come. Let me see it again.”
“Holy Spirit, show me where it is.”

Let it be simple. Let it be enough.

❓Do I have to do anything to keep the light? What’s my role?

💬 Answer:
Your role is to accept. That’s it. To accept that it’s here. To forgive. To be willing. And when doubt comes up? To bring it gently to the Holy Spirit and say, “I don’t want to keep this anymore. Show me the truth instead.”

You don’t have to hold the light. It holds you.

Lesson 76: I Am Under No Laws But God’s

❓What does it really mean that I’m under no laws but God’s? I feel like I still live by the world’s rules.

💬 Answer:
That’s such a natural response. We’ve spent years—lifetimes even—believing in the laws of medicine, nutrition, money, relationship dynamics, and achievement. But Jesus is helping us see that these are not laws—they’re strategies the ego made up to try to survive without God.

So when He says, “You are under no laws but God’s,” He’s not asking you to stop paying your bills or throw away your prescriptions. He’s asking you to question the source of your trust. Where are you placing your salvation? In money? In routines? Or in Him?

❓I feel afraid to let go of the world’s laws. What if I lose everything?

💬 Answer:
That fear is the ego’s defense against the miracle. But here’s the truth: letting go of the world’s laws doesn’t mean losing. It means being freed. The laws of God are loving, abundant, generous, and whole. You’re not left empty when you leave the old system—you’re finally filled.

And just like I shared about my experience with CrossFit, the things that seem like loss? They’re often the doorway to deeper joy, clarity, and alignment. You don’t give up the world and get nothing. You let go of fear and receive everything.

❓Does this mean I should stop doing things like going to the gym or eating healthy?

💬 Answer:
Not necessarily. The Course never asks you to abandon form—it asks you to re-purpose it. I still go to the gym now. I still nourish my body. But I do it from love—not fear.

The key is to ask: Why am I doing this? Am I punishing myself? Am I trying to earn worth? Or am I listening to guidance and responding with love? The Holy Spirit will use form to bless and teach you. When your motivation is love—not guilt or shame—it’s God’s law in action.

❓What’s the difference between God’s laws and the laws of the world?

💬 Answer:
The laws of the world say: “You need this or you’ll suffer.”
God’s laws say: “You already have everything.”

The world tells you to hustle for safety, chase approval, protect the body. God tells you: You are safe, worthy, and eternal already.

One creates anxiety and striving. The other brings peace. And once you start to feel the difference, you won’t want to live by fear anymore.

❓What if I’m not ready to let go of certain “laws”—like routines, medicine, or therapy?

💬 Answer:
That’s okay. The Holy Spirit never rushes you. You’re not being asked to throw everything out today. You’re being invited to become curious. To start asking, “Is this still serving love?” or, “Is this a law I made up out of fear?”

Let yourself be gently led. The ego rushes. God guides. If something still feels helpful, ask Him to bless it and show you how to use it without fear. Over time, the things you don’t need anymore will fall away on their own.

❓If I’m not the body, why bother taking care of it at all?

💬 Answer:
Because love cares. You are not the body—but you are loving awareness, and that love can extend even to how you nourish and tend to the body temporarily entrusted to you.

You don’t care for it to preserve your identity. You care for it because it’s a vessel of service. As I learned through food and movement, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s peace. And peace always includes love for what you’ve been given.

❓I still have areas where I seek salvation outside myself. How do I stop?

💬 Answer:
Start by noticing them with honesty, not shame.
Ask:

“Where am I still trying to be saved by something outside me?”
“What do I still believe I need in order to be okay?”

Then offer those answers to the Holy Spirit and say: “I’m willing to be shown another way.” You don’t have to rip these things away. You just need to stop hiding from the question. That’s where the miracle enters.
