Today, we’re going to answer a powerful question from someone named Katie.
She asked this question on one of my recent YouTube videos, and I felt really inspired to answer it for all of us today.
This is what she asked:
QUESTION:
“Is Jesus God, according to A Course in Miracles?”
Katie, I’m so glad you asked this—
because so many people with a religious background wonder the same thing.
And in A Course in Miracles, we’re actually invited to perceive Jesus differently.
So today, let’s gain clarity on who Jesus really is—and how knowing the truth about Jesus can change your mind, your entire life, and maybe even our world.

Is Jesus God?
MY ANSWER:
The Course uses Christian terminology throughout its teachings—but reinterprets those terms through the lens of love, and only love.
Jesus is no exception.
But before we talk about who Jesus is, we need to understand:
Who is God?
The Course tells us:
God is but Love (meaning He is love and only love.)
God is also happiness.
This means, the Source of all creation is pure love and joy—and nothing else.
This means:
God is not wrathful.
He is not vengeful.
He does not punish.
He does not require sacrifice.
He does not want us to fear Him.
He is love and only love.
And He welcomes us with loving, open arms.
Being love, God creates like Himself.
All of His creations—including you, me, and Jesus—are created in His image.
The Course tells us:
“God is but love, and therefore so am I.”
We are created to create the good, the beautiful, and the holy.
This is not just a lovely sentiment—it’s the truth of our eternal nature.
But What About Darkness?
Some may ask, “But what about evil? What about the darkness?”
The Course refers to this as the “ego”—a thought system that is literally the absence of God.
But in true reality, God has no opposite.
Darkness, therefore, cannot truly be real.
The ego is simply a thought we’ve accepted.
It tries to “Edge God Out”—by replacing God’s voice with fear.
We begin to believe the ego’s lies instead of listening to the Voice for God, which is the Holy Spirit.
Religion may teach that God becomes angry or punishes us—but the Course makes it clear:
Those ideas come from the ego—not from God.
And here’s the good news:
God knows we make mistakes, and so He gave us the Holy Spirit to correct them.
Mistakes are not sins.
And sin is not our identity.
We are innocent children of God, just as He created us.
Now… What About Jesus?
Once we understand that God is only love, we can begin to understand Jesus in a new light.
A Course in Miracles tells us:
“There is no cruelty in God. And therefore, none in me.”
Anything that comes from fear is not from God.
So we’re invited to let the Voice for God correct everything we’ve learned through fear—especially our misunderstandings of Jesus.
Jesus was the perfect demonstration of love.
He listened only to the Holy Spirit.
He saw the light in everyone.
That’s how he worked miracles.

Jesus Isn’t Special? He’s Just Like Me?
Jesus is called the Son of God—a creation of God, just like you and me.
What makes Jesus unique is that he remembered who he was.
He accepted only love as true—and nothing else.
There’s a section in the Use of Terms that says:
“Jesus is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, whom he called down upon the earth after he ascended into heaven, or became completely identified with the Christ.”
That means:
- Jesus had the Holy Spirit in his mind
- He fulfilled his mission by awakening to his oneness with God
- And once he ascended—he gave us all the ability to hear that Voice too
Because Jesus became the perfect demonstration of what it means to follow the Voice for Love, we now have the Holy Spirit accessible within our own minds.
Jesus reflected God’s love perfectly.
He didn’t see himself as a body.
He didn’t see himself as God.
He saw himself as God’s Son—our brother.
Another quote says:
“The name of Jesus is the name of one who was a man, but saw the face of Christ in all his brothers and remembered God. So he became identified with Christ—a man no longer, but at one with God.”
Jesus changed his mind about who he was.
He stopped seeing himself as just a man—and fully accepted his divine identity as the Christ.
That shift allowed him to embody the peace, power, and certainty of God—because he knew he was created by God and one with Him.
Even when he was here on Earth, Jesus prayed to God.
He didn’t pray to himself.
He always called God his Father, never himself.
He said:
“I am not the author of myself. And yet, I am my Father’s Son.”
Jesus didn’t create himself.
God did.
He knew that he was the created, not the Creator.
And yet, because he was created by God, he carried within him all of God’s love, beauty, strength, and power.
So… Is Jesus God?
Not in the way traditional theology teaches.
He is not God in human form.
He is God’s Son who fully remembered his identity.
The Course says:
“Jesus became what all of us must be.”
That means Jesus is not our idol.
He is our brother.
He is the symbol of what is possible for each of us.
And when the Course asks, “Is he the Christ?”
It answers:
“Oh yes—along with you.”
Jesus didn’t want to be worshiped.
He wanted to be welcomed—into your home, your mind, your heart.
So we could remember that we are one with him.
And through him, one with God.
Even in the Bible, Jesus said:
“These and greater things shall you do.”
Because he knew the Christ was in us.
When Peter saw Jesus and said, “You are the Christ,” Jesus knew that eventually, Peter would see the Christ in himself too.
And when Peter denied Jesus three times, he later remembered who Jesus was, and returned to the truth—and became a leader of light and love.
So Why Does All of This Matter?
Because we’re not here to wait for Jesus to return.
He never left.
He lives in your heart.
And when you meet him there—you meet the Christ in you.
Lesson 66 says:
“I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.”
Jesus needs us to accept our part—just like he did.
So we can help him complete God’s plan for the world.
Jesus is walking with you.
He’s not here to save you—he’s here to help you remember who you are.
So in conclusion:
Jesus is the Christ, yes.
But he is not the Father.
He is the Holy Son of God—just like you.
And now it’s our time.
- To step out of our humanness, and into our divineness.
- To purify our minds.
- To let miracles work through our hands.
- To follow Jesus in love, peace, and forgiveness.
Jesus is at the head of salvation.
At the head of the Atonement.
At the head of God’s plan for peace.
He never left us.
He is still here—holding our hand, walking us home.
We are here to be the love and the light of the world — alongside him.
