QUESTION:

“What does the word salvation mean?”

I know salvation can be a touchy topic, and that each of us approach it from different angles.

But today, I’m sharing the angle A Course in Miracles offers.

Understanding Salvation Through A Course in Miracles

MY ANSWER:

When I say salvation, I’m talking about seeing a transformation within ourselves:

We first begin our transformation in a state of seeing life through a lens of fear, guilt, irritation, judgement, or pain…

Then we evolve into a state of seeing through a lens of love, healing, happiness, and freedom.

Salvation is the choice to let go of old patterns that make us feel small, unworthy, or stuck—and to embrace the truth that we are deeply loved, whole, and capable of peace right now.

For anyone raised in strict religious frameworks, salvation in A Course in Miracles is not about waiting for an afterlife or something far out of reach.

It’s something you can experience here and now.

My goal is to help you stop looking outside yourself for happiness.

The Course is a structured, effective path for overcoming lower emotions and stepping confidently into a future founded in reality and peace, not illusion.

When we have a disciplined study and a way to train our mind to feel that peace, we approach life with confidence—knowing we are loved and accepted exactly as we are.

This transformational shift fills life with gratitude and fulfilment, touching everything we do.

How the Ego Shapes Our View of Salvation

A core teaching of the Course says:

The key to salvation is: I have done this unto myself.

For many, that’s a hard idea to accept.

The ego hears it and twists it into blame: If I’ve done this to myself, I must be guilty, at fault, and deserve punishment.

But in truth, responsibility is empowerment.

Love welcomes everyone as they are.

It allows us to move from a smaller idea of self into the greater idea of self—the one aligned with how God sees us.

A Real-Life Example of Healing and Forgiveness

Years ago, I met two women, friends with each other though I met them separately for sessions.

We often talked about their desire to share their hearts and spiritual insights with others.

Our conversations eventually touched on responsibility: that we are responsible for our thinking and emotions.

At first, they began to grasp it.

They saw how taking responsibility could empower them to choose differently.

But then, the ego pushed back.

Instead of asking, “What is this resistance teaching me?”, they projected their discomfort onto me.

Both decided to step away from our sessions all together.

When they told me they weren’t ready to continue with me, I offered love, grace, and an open door.

Months later, each one returned—one at a time—saying they realized they had been upset with their own thoughts, not with me.

They reclaimed responsibility, healed their minds, and accepted their part in salvation.

Our relationships are now stronger than ever, built on a willingness to trade fearful thoughts for loving thoughts, and guilt for forgiveness.

Is My Anxiety Actually Hiding My Guilt?

One of the biggest fears on this journey is feeling unworthy or forever tied to guilt and punishment.

If you’ve ever said,I feel anxious’, often that anxiety is a sign of hidden guilt or unworthiness creeping into the mind.

These patterns tell us we’re inadequate, judged, or not good enough—in God’s eyes, others’ eyes, or our own.

The anxiety patterns create cycles of self-doubt and shame that block the peace salvation promises.

So breaking free from hidden guilt lifts that weight, bringing a renewed sense of self-worth, joy, and compassion.

It allows us to release burdens we’ve carried in ourselves and our relationships for years.

Discovering Inner Connection to God and the Holy Spirit

Many people fear they’ll have to rely on external structures or validation to feel spiritually connected.

But when we discover our inner connection to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, we no longer depend on outside approval.

This is why we are responsible for what we think, feel, and see—because then we can hand it over to our Inner Teacher and see accurately, rather than through the filter of the past.

The Course gives us a clear framework for understanding this and living it.

Transformation Can Happen in a Single Moment?

This shift doesn’t have to take years.

Even though the book itself is large, transformation can begin in a single moment—a heartfelt decision to look within.

One choice to seek guidance from within can open the door to salvation rooted in love, responsibility, and self-acceptance.

When inner peace fills us, it radiates outward, lifting us and drawing others closer.

It changes our relationships and the quality of our lives.

Take a quiet moment today and ask:

  • What would inner peace feel like for me?
  • What does salvation look like for me?

Imagine how this inner work could transform not only how you feel, but how you connect with others and pursue your dreams.
