“I would like to move ahead in my alternative therapy training, but a part of me feels it’s a waste according to A Course in Miracles.

Yet every day I’m helped tremendously by these therapies. Please shed some light. Thank you.”

Can I Follow the Course and Give Alternative Healing?

MY ANSWER:

Here’s what I say to this.

All healing modalities have a place—because all seek to get to the root of suffering in their own way.

Whether it’s somatic experiencing, energy work, hypnotherapy, or traditional psychotherapy…

What matters most is not the form, but who is guiding you through it.

A Course in Miracles is clear:

The answer is not found in the form of the therapy itself—but always through the Holy Spirit.

And yet, the Holy Spirit knows your curriculum.

He knows exactly what will support your awakening—and how your unique journey serves the greater plan for peace.

Sometimes, He will guide you to alternative modalities—not because they hold power per se, but because you are ready to receive healing through them.

And they could be helpful for you to give to others.

What If Spirit Led Me To Different Therapies to Prepare Me For The Course?

In my own journey, I was trained in hypnotherapy and neurolinguistic programming.

These tools helped me understand the subconscious.

They taught me how to:

• be still
• how to listen inwardly
• how to discern between my two thought systems.

And ultimately—they prepared me for a full commitment to A Course in Miracles.

If I hadn’t walked through those trainings, I wouldn’t have been ready to receive the Course as deeply as I have.

Because let’s be honest—

Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us to therapy before He leads us to Workbook Lesson 1.

And that’s okay too.

How Do I Know If My Next Step Is Spirit-Led or Ego-Driven?

Here’s what I suggest: Pray. Ask. Listen.

Ask the Holy Spirit:

“What is this training for?”

If you discover that this next step is coming from joy, clarity, expansion, and helpfulness—

Then it aligns with His Will.

And you’ll know you’re on the right path.

If it feels like grasping, or fear, or idolizing form in any way—then pause.

But only you will truly know where it’s coming from.

Can Spirit Use Breathwork and Bodywork to Heal Minds?

A Course in Miracles teaches us to listen to and follow Spirit in all things.

And yes—while salvation does not lie in somatic therapy…

Spirit can absolutely use that therapy to support your salvation.

These modalities can help us release blockages that prevent us from hearing God’s voice and feeling His peace—which is the point.

Let’s remember what the Course tells us:

“God isn’t concerned with the form. He gave us the content, which is love—and the form can adapt to our need.”

That means Spirit can use anything and everything:

• Breathwork
• Massage
• Movement
• Somatic work
• Even nutrition

…to bring us back to peace.

What If It Wasn’t the Modality, But My Willingness That Healed Me?

A Course in Miracles would never say that something which has genuinely helped you is a waste.

If it brought you peace—

Then it has already been used by Spirit for your healing.

Just remember:

It was never the modality itself.

It was your willingness to be healed that opened the door for the Holy Spirit to enter.

How Can I Follow Joy Without Getting Lost in Form?

So, my friends—

Follow your joy.

God’s Will for us is happiness.

If the idea of this training feels heart-opening, exciting, and Spirit-guided—go for it.

That joy is a compass.

But if it’s coming from fear or a sense of lack—let that be your invitation to pause.

Inquire more deeply.

And maybe don’t take those steps just yet—until you’re ready, and it’s coming from love and joy.

And let’s remember:

No modality—no matter how helpful—can replace the true spiritual psychotherapy that happens through the Holy Spirit in your own mind.

The Course’s mind training brings us to that deep, inner healing that transcends all form.

It’s not about doing more.

It’s about undoing the blocks to love’s presence in our mind.

And only mind training—and listening to the Holy Spirit—can do that.

You have a soul’s purpose.

Spirit wants to lead you into it. So keep your heart open.

Keep listening. Keep following the light.

And you cannot get this wrong.
