Today question came from a student of mine who is courageously letting go of old beliefs and rediscovering what she truly wants.
She had grown up going to church and knowing of God, but over time that relationship felt distant, even broken, and even harmful at times.

Here is what she asked:
QUESTION:
“How can I rebuild my relationship back to God?”
The ideas she had been taught about God were tangled with fear, guilt, judgment, and even death.
Yet, as she began to release those old stories, something sacred stirred within her —
a quiet willingness to meet God anew.
No longer as a distant ruler, but as Love itself.
She began to sense that a relationship with God could be alive, gentle, comforting, and right here—within her own heart.
And that longing to know our Creator lives inside all of us.
This simple willingness—to remember what’s true—is enough to lead us directly back to God.
How Can I Rebuild My Relationship Back To God?
MY ANSWER:
I would like to start by that we don’t have to reach God through doctrine, belief systems, preachers, or even holy books.
We connect directly to God by opening to an experience of love that is personal, peaceful, and profoundly real. Because that’s what God is: Love, and nothing else.
A true connection with our Creator feels safe, honest, and deeply present.
And A Course in Miracles shows us how to return to this right relationship with God—
one not built on fear, but rooted entirely in love.
When we release our false ideas of who we thought God was, we finally begin to remember who God truly is.
And that remembrance transforms everything—how we see ourselves and how we show up in life.
Letting Go of Old Beliefs About God
Early in my journey, I didn’t think I could even talk to God.
I wasn’t religious. I wasn’t baptized. I didn’t go to church. I believed I had made too many mistakes—what the world called “sins.”
But when I began reading A Course in Miracles, I discovered that none of that defined me. Those were simply beliefs—mistaken thoughts about myself.
And what i came to learn is that mistakes can be corrected.
One morning, after a particularly difficult week, I sat on my couch and said out loud:
“If You’re real, God, I need You to show me.”
There was no thunder, no lightning. Just a soft stillness.
A quiet whisper: I am with you.
It wasn’t dramatic, but it was real. Fear dissolved. Tears came.
And I realized that communication with God doesn’t require perfection—only willingness—and that’s the moment changed everything.
It was no longer about believing in God;
it was about allowing Him to reveal Himself to me—not as a man in the sky, but as a quiet, loving presence within my own heart.
So…Why Are So Many of Us Still Afraid of God?
For many of us, our early conditioning taught us to fear God.
We’ve heard phrases like “fear the wrath of God.” Hence, how could we ever really open our hearts to someone we’re afraid of?
When we fear God, we keep our distance. We imagine a being who keeps score—
ready to punish us for mistakes.
But how could Love ever punish?
Fear made us hide. It made love seem far away. Yet fear is not the way back to God’s heart. Only love is.
To remember God, we must allow fear to dissolve. That means gently looking at it when it arises—without judgment—and letting it be undone.
Because underneath every fear of God lies a belief in sin.
And that belief says,
I’ve done something so wrong that Love has left me.
What If Sin Doesn’t Mean What We Think It Means?
A Course in Miracles teaches that sin is not real—it’s simply a mistake, a moment of forgetting what’s true.
The term “sin” originally meant missing the mark, but humanity added layers of threat and punishment to it.
God does not see sinners. God sees only what He created—His beloved children.
So sin is just an adjustment in perception, a moment when we believe something false has become true.
When we remember this, guilt and shame lose their power. Love remains unchanged.
Just as we still love our children when they make mistakes, God’s love for us never stops. He doesn’t punish; He corrects through love.
The Holy Spirit is that correction.
He is the quiet answer within us, guiding us back every time we forget.
Is Forgiveness About Earning God’s Love—or Remembering It?
Forgiveness is not about earning mercy.
It’s about remembering that God’s mercy has never been withdrawn. Every mistake has already been washed clean by love.
When we forgive, we align ourselves with how God already sees us—innocent and whole. And as we do, the image of a distant, angry God disappears.
What remains is the real God—unchanging, eternal, and close.
How Can Listening Clear the Static in My Mind?
We’re so blessed to have the Holy Spirit translate God’s love into a form we can understand.
When we listen—in stillness, in prayer, in our relationships—the static of the ego quiets.
It’s like realizing the phone line was never disconnected.
God has been there all along. The more we listen, the clearer the connection becomes.
And because communication is reciprocal, the more we talk to God, the more He speaks to us.
Relationships as a Path Back to God
Our relationships are sacred opportunities to come closer to God.
The Course says:
“When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter.
As you see him, you will see yourself.
As you know him, you will know yourself.
As you love him, you will love yourself.”
Each person we meet—friend, partner, coworker, even those we find difficult—is a mirror of the same Love within us.
As we extend patience and compassion, we shift from “me and you” to “we.”
Separation dissolves, and we begin to remember God through one another.
What Happens When You Finally See Yourself as Innocent Again?
As our false ideas of God and of others dissolve, the false image of ourselves dissolves too.
We begin to see our innocence, our holiness, our worthiness to connect with God.
And we remember:
God goes with me wherever I go.
I don’t have to seek Him somewhere else.
He’s already here, within me:
- “God, be with me this morning.”
- “God, be with me through this day.”
- “God, be with me in this moment.”
When we invite Him in, we realize He never left.
What If God Has Been With You All Along?
If you’ve ever felt distant from God, please know—He’s never left you.
You’ve never truly left Him either. We may have taken on bodies, but our souls remain forever joined.
When our minds become cluttered, we simply need purification—a clearing—to hear His voice again.
And the quickest way to remember Him? Look into the eyes of your brothers and sisters.
See their innocence. See their light.
There you will find your own. And there, you will remember God.
Can I Hear What God Is Saying to Me Right Now?
God is within you now.
He’s waiting not for perfection, but for openness.
Ask, listen, and He will speak:
“You are my beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.”
