QUESTION:

What Morning Practice Helps Me Feel Connected to God?

And at the core, this question is a call to live from connection—not control.

To move from habit to holiness. To shift from waking up and striving and surviving… to waking up and giving the day to God, so we can experience His peace.

This practice isn’t about doing more.

It’s about doing one thing well—one practice that aligns your whole being with divine truth before the world starts spinning.

It’s a return to being. Because we are human beings, not human doings.

So, today I’m going to share one of the most powerful and practical morning practices I’ve ever used.

Can My Morning Practice Really Connect Me To God?

MY ANSWER:

I call this a Morning Release Practice.

It’s a simple but powerful integration of several key Course ideas—bringing together:

  • the reminders we’ve been given in the Workbook lessons
  • the Rules for Decision (Chapter 30)
  • the inward listening we’re learning
  • and the invitation we offer our Inner Teacher for guidance and healing

But most importantly, it opens the door to true perception (aka thinking).

And my friends, the Course tells us:

every miracle begins with a shift in perception

Nothing shifts perception more radically than beginning your day from surrendered stillness and alignment with the Divine Mind.

So let’s walk through four simple steps you can start tomorrow morning.

What Should Happen First In The Morning?

Begin your morning in stillness.

Don’t reach for your phone. Don’t check your messages.

Just be still.

Bring your attention gently to your breath—feeling the air move in and out of your nostrils.

You’re not trying to control your breathing. Only observe it. Just notice.

This matters because the breath is a bridge between the body and spirit. It brings you into the present moment—and the present moment is where God can be remembered.

So all you need to do is be here now.

If it helps, set a timer—five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen. And if you’re doing your Workbook lesson in the morning, you can pair this with your pauses and breath awareness.

If your mind wanders, simply repeat your lesson for the day and return to the breath.

This is your quiet invitation to God:

Here I am. I’m choosing to be present… and I’m letting You in to heal me, comfort me, guide my day, and show me things differently.

But It’s Hard… My Ego Tries to Control?

Now we actively lay the ego down.

We hand over every desire, every fear, every hope of personal gain—or avoidance of pain—and we place it on the altar of the mind.

And we say:

“I do not know what anything is for. I place all outcomes in Your hands.”

This step is the conscious undoing of the separate self.

It’s the daily letting go that makes room for your true Self to rise… and for true guidance to be received. When you surrender what you want, what you fear, and what you’re trying to control, you create inner space for light.

Practice this step well, my friends. It will make a tremendous difference in your life.

How Do I Let God Run My Day?

Once you’ve emptied the vessel, you’re ready to receive.

Ask softly and clearly:

“Holy Spirit, what would You have me know today?”

“What would You have me feel, see, and do?”

Then let your heart and mind become open.
Let love pour in—not just as an emotion, but as an awareness of wholeness.

You can also begin to gently affirm what you want to be guided into:

What you want to feel today.
What you want to see today.
How you want to show up today.

And allow your co-creation with the Holy Spirit to set the tone of the day.

Remember: you are not asking some distant deity. You are opening to the part of your mind that never left God—the Christ Mind within you.

Turning inward is where you hear. Turning inward is where you know peace and truth.

Really?! Love Can Simply Be My Plan For The Day?

Now that you’ve remembered who you are—that spark of Divine Spirit—you get to choose to walk in it.

Decide that love will be your GPS today.

Let peace be your fuel. Let the Holy Spirit guide every word and action. (See Workbook on more step-by-step info)

Return to the breath as an anchor—so you remember the love that is in you and guiding you. You don’t need to know what the day will hold—only that you are being held in love.

And my friends, when the ego is no longer running the show, you will be surprised again and again by the happiness, the patience, the synchronicities, and the divine orchestration that flows in.

This is what A Course in Miracles means when it says:

Ask… and He will answer.

This practice is about asking—and not interfering.

It is the daily laying down of what you thought you were, and the return to the One Self God created: the love and light that is eternal in you.

What Should I Do When I Get Knocked Off Track?

If you want more support with this practice, I recommend reviewing The Rules for Decision in Chapter 30 and applying them closely.

They will give you a way to come back quickly—especially on mornings when you get pulled off track—so you can return to the present moment where God is… where you are… and where peace is restored.

So, to recap, this is the four-part Morning Release Practice:

  1. Be still and focus on your breath (5–15 minutes)
  2. Release personal desires, fears, and outcomes
  3. Open to receive divine love and wisdom
  4. Decide to act and feel in accordance with love

How Long Do I Have To Do This?

Thank you for your willingness to apply this every morning as you walk through the Course… and through life.

Try this for seven days.

And when you start noticing the miracles and the transformations, come back and tell me. Leave a comment, or reply to one of my emails.

I’m here—loving you and supporting you.

Do You Offer Extra Support Each Week?

And don’t forget—if you want extra support and a spiritual family to walk beside you, come join my Tuesday A Course in Miracles Text class.

We open the Text together every week, apply it directly to real life, and let the Holy Spirit show us what’s blocking love—so it can be undone.

It’s every week at 1:00 PM Eastern, and the space is alive with miracles. You are welcome there.
