This week, a student named Michelle shared a question that came straight from the middle of the mind-training process of the Workbook.
Her question is layered, vulnerable, and deeply relatable.
She is trying to understand her thoughts, feelings, the body, and what’s actually real.
The truth is: the Workbook will stretch you. It’s designed to undo—not just teach.
Here is what she asked:
QUESTION:
“How can my thoughts be meaningless and yet not be neutral ? According to A Course In Miracles Workbook
I think feelings come from the effects of our thinking. Is it true that nothing from ego thought system can really be shared and only truth can be shared?”
It’s a beautifully honest reflection—and it deserves to be met with care.
Let’s walk through it slowly, one step at a time.

Are My Thoughts Really Meaningless?
MY ANSWER:
The Course teaches:
“Anything that is not of God is meaningless.” (T-8.VI.2)
That’s a bold statement.
But here’s the heart of it: If your thoughts are based in fear, they aren’t your real thoughts.
They’re learned. Inherited. Conditioned by the world—from parents, schools, media, even religion.
We’ve been trained to think in lack, guilt, attack, and separation.
But these are not the thoughts God gave us.
Our true thoughts are loving, eternal, and shared. They come from the Holy Spirit and reflect the truth of who we are: the Son of God, created by Love itself.
When Jesus invites us to see our fearful thoughts as meaningless, He’s not shaming us. He’s freeing us.
He’s saying:
You don’t need to fix those thoughts. You just need to recognize they aren’t real.
And when you stop giving them power, love will rise naturally to take their place.
If My Thoughts Are Meaningless, How Are They Not Neutral?
This part is key.
Even though fear-based thoughts are illusions, they’re still powerful in one way: they have effects.
A Course in Miracles says in Lesson 16:
“There are no neutral thoughts. Every thought you have contributes to truth or to illusion.”
That means every thought—even a fearful one—has an effect. It either projects fear or extends love.
Your thoughts are not idle.
You’re not passively observing the world—you’re helping make it, moment by moment, with your mind.
This is why mind training matters so much.
Because when you shift your thoughts from fear to love, you don’t just feel better—you contribute to healing the world.
What About the Body? Isn’t That Supposed to Be Neutral?
Yes. The Course tells us the body is completely neutral.
It doesn’t think. It doesn’t feel. It’s simply a tool.
But we often confuse the body for the cause of our pain—when it’s actually the effect.
Think of the body like a character in a movie. It shows up on screen, but it’s not writing the script.
The projector—the mind—is doing that.
So if we want the story to change, we don’t rearrange the props—we change the film.
And that film is made of thought.
“Seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world.” (T-21.in.1:7)

Do You Have A Real World Example?
There was a time when I was constantly battling with my body.
I was stuck in a painful loop of dieting, control, and self-criticism. The more I tried to fix my body through external force, the more it resisted. And the more I hated it, the more it hurt.
One day, I realised:
“I’m not going to heal my body by hating it.
If the body is neutral…then my mind is the one that needs healing.”
So I made a decision. I stopped attacking my body with my thoughts.
I started to appreciate it. Nourish it. Love it. Not to change it—but because I was ready to stop the war.
And something miraculous happened: the weight released.
Not because I punished it into obedience, but because I stopped projecting pain onto it.
This is how we heal.
We stop attacking with our minds—and start remembering what’s true.
Where Do My Feelings Come In?
Michelle asked: “Are feelings caused by thoughts?”
Yes. Exactly. Emotions are not random. They are effects—not causes. They follow thought.
“You may believe you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think.
The truth is that you are responsible for what you think.” (T-2.VI.2)
Feelings are like smoke—pointing back to the fire of thought.
So when you feel anxious, hurt, or afraid, ask:
“What am I thinking right now that’s generating this?”
—it’s about claiming your power. This is not about blaming yourself.
Because once you locate the thought, you can offer it to the Holy Spirit for healing.
And as your thinking softens, your emotions follow.
Do Our Thoughts Affect the World Around Us?
Absolutely.
You’re not alone in experiencing the effects of your thoughts—because we’re all participating in this collective dream. We’re sharing it.
Have you ever noticed how someone can shift the energy of a room just by entering it?
That’s not magic—it’s thought. We radiate the energy of our mind. Fear constricts. Love expands. And the effects ripple outward.
This is why your inner work matters so much. Every time you choose love over fear, you bless more than just yourself.
You bless everyone around you—often without even knowing it.
Can Ego Thoughts Be Shared?
Here’s the paradox:
Ego thoughts feel loud. But they’re actually private.
They can’t truly be shared, because they’re based in perception—which is always individual and fragmented.
Only love, which comes from God, is truly shared. That’s what makes it real.
“What is thought can be shared, because it is of God.” (T-14.X.2)
The ego isolates.
Love joins.
When you choose to think with the Holy Spirit, you’re not just healing—you’re reconnecting with the part of your mind that is joined with all of us.
And that’s where salvation begins.
My Final Reflection On The Workbook
If you’re working through the Workbook and finding yourself confused, emotional, or stretched beyond what you expected… you’re not alone.
That’s actually the point. This isn’t a surface-level self-help journey.
This is a deep mind reversal—one that brings up everything that isn’t love so it can be seen and undone.
And that’s why we walk this path together. Because your healing matters. Not just for you, but for the world.
