If you’ve ever felt torn watching political drama unfold—confused about what’s true, who to trust, or whether a spiritual teacher should even bring up these topics—this is for you.
A Course in Miracles teaches that the outer world is a reflection of the inner one. So yes, even politics has something to teach us—but only if we’re willing to look beyond appearances.
In this powerful conversation between myself and a thoughtful member of our community, David, we explore the tension between politics and spirituality—and how figures like Obama and Trump reveal deeper dynamics of the ego, the “false savior,” and the urgent need for discernment.
This blog isn’t about choosing sides. It’s about seeing clearly—so you don’t get caught in rhetoric, fear, or the emotional pendulum swing that keeps the ego alive.
Because if we don’t learn to see the ego in these outer dramas and characters, we’ll keep fighting illusions while thinking we’re fighting for truth. That’s how the ego wins—by getting us emotionally entangled in battles that were never real to begin with.
The world is getting louder, darker, and more divided. But that’s only because the old thought system is crumbling. And we, as miracle workers, are being called to rise—not in opposition, but in clarity and with miracles. So when others begin to wake up, we will be ready—not to argue—but to serve. To see the soul instead of the ego.
If we don’t learn how to see with Christ’s vision, we will be pulled by the world’s drama—and lose sight of our purpose.
This blog will help you begin to spot where the ego hides (even in hope) and begin the work of true perception and miracle-working in a world that is desperately calling for Love.
Hope you have a blessed day!
BRITNEY’S RESPONSE (Spiritual Therapist)
“The real revolution isn’t political. It’s spiritual. It’s the return to Christ in your own mind.”
Thank you for sharing your perspective with such clarity and conviction. I completely agree with you that politics and spirituality are fundamentally different—one rooted in illusion, the other in truth. But for me, they intersect in this one key way:
Just as political leaders fail the people, so too does the ego fail the soul. It’s the same pattern: seeking outside of ourselves for a savior, instead of turning inward toward the only true Source of salvation—Christ within.
When I referenced Obama, it wasn’t to ignore the deep systemic issues (which you’ve so clearly articulated), but to acknowledge that even within a broken system, he attempted to speak to people’s hearts—with dignity, hope, and some sense of unity. That mattered. But yes—the system was too entrenched, too compromised by powers far beyond one man’s control, and it chewed him up just like it does to anyone who tries to play by its rules.
I agree with you entirely—Obama’s failure to deliver on justice for the people gave birth to a kind of collective heartbreak. And into that heartbreak rushed the illusion of an outsider-savior, which many projected onto Trump. The pendulum swing you mention is real: the left went too far, and now the right is overcorrecting. It’s the ego’s dance—polarization, separation, blame.
The Course is clear though: ‘No one can be saved from illusion unless he sees it is an illusion.’ As long as we keep putting our hope in form—people, systems, parties—we’ll keep missing the only true Savior: the Holy Spirit / Christ within.
This is why the real issue isn’t one man. It’s the system itself—and beneath that, the inner system we haven’t yet dismantled: the ego. And that’s why, for me, politics does show up in my teaching—not as a focus, but as a mirror. What’s happening “out there” is just a reflection of what’s going on “in here.” The collapse of outer systems mirrors the inner collapse of the ego. And unless we see it for what it is, we’ll keep replacing one false savior with another.
No one man will ever save us. But a united, healed people can. When we’re willing to feel beyond the surface, we can recognize the heart behind rhetoric—or the shadow behind a smile. That’s Christ vision. That’s discernment without attack.
Do I think Obama is worthy of love and forgiveness? Yes. He made massive mistakes. But I also see someone who may carry guilt for what he couldn’t do. I don’t know his heart, but I believe that redemption is for everyone. And maybe he, too, tried to heal a system from the inside and found out the hard way that the system wasn’t designed for healing.
Now we have Trump. And yes, there’s a kind of destruction he brings that might reveal what needs to fall—but a sledgehammer is rarely the right tool. Either way, the only real tool we have is truth. And staying anchored in that is the only way we can support the rise of a New Earth, a new inner government—led by Christ, not ego.
Your words are so refreshing. It’s rare to have these kinds of grounded, clear-eyed conversations in spiritual spaces. But I know Jesus asks us to see clearly and speak truth, just like He did with the Pharisees—not from attack, but from a love that refuses to be deceived.
Please—keep me honest. If you ever hear me speak something that feels off or incomplete, or you want to dive deeper, I welcome that. I want to stay as clean and clear a vessel as I can when sharing these kinds of topics. And I appreciate your presence and wisdom and research in this political arena so much.
With love and gratitude,
Britney
