P.S. ASK ME ANYTHING: If you have any questions or need clarity about A Course In Miracles, I’m here to help! Simply submit your question through this form.
This week, a new student of A Course in Miracles named Kelsey asked a really thoughtful question about how to actually apply the workbook lessons.
It’s such a beautiful inquiry—and one I’m excited to unpack with you.

Here is what she asked:
QUESTION:
“My question is about applying the lessons.
For example, Lesson 63—‘The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness.’
During my closed-eye practice periods, should I search my mind for people I’ve judged and then forgive them—and myself?
Or am I just meant to reflect on the statement in the lesson?”
Kelsey, I love your curiosity.
Thank you for asking this, because it gets to the heart of what many students wonder:
How do we actually apply these ideas to our minds and our lives?
How Do I Apply The Lessons?
MY ANSWER:
So first of all, it’s helpful to know that each lesson in the workbook is unique.
Some lessons like Love Holds No Grievances, do ask us to look at those we’ve judged and extend forgiveness.
But Lesson 63 is a little different.
This lesson reminds us that we are created by God—and because of that, we have the power to bring peace to every mind through our forgiveness.
It’s not asking us to search for people to forgive.
It’s asking us to contemplate the idea and allow it to settle deeply into our awareness.
To accept the truth of this statement—not just in our minds, but in our hearts.
How Am I Supposed to Practice This Lesson 63?
Here’s how Jesus invites us to approach Lesson 63:
- Start your day by saying:
“The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness.” - End your day with the same phrase—letting its vibration carry you into sleep.
- Throughout the day, recall it as often as possible.
Whether you’re driving, washing dishes, folding laundry, or spending time with family—let the lesson accompany you.
What Should I Do During Quiet Practice Periods?
Now to the heart of your question—what about the longer, quiet practice periods?
In this lesson, we’re invited to listen for related thoughts—gentle ideas that echo or expand the central idea.
After repeating:
“The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness,”
…pause. Observe. Let your mind gently open.
You might hear thoughts like:
- “I am the light of the world.”
- “Through my forgiveness, peace extends to every mind.”
- “Thank you, God, for choosing me as a means of salvation.”
These are not forced thoughts.
They arise from stillness.
They come from the Holy Spirit—not from our thinking mind.
And when these thoughts come, they bring with them the peace and truth of God.
Why Listening for Related Thoughts Matters (Holy Spirit Guidance)
Listening for related thoughts is how the Holy Spirit makes the lesson real for you.
He helps you understand it…
Accept it…
And ultimately, live it.
When the idea settles into your awareness, forgiveness becomes natural.
Because you’ve received it—and now you can extend it.
This is how trust grows.
This is how peace returns.
This is how the lessons work.
Do You Have Any Personal Stories?
I remember a time I was deeply wrestling with judgment.
Someone had said something quite cruel—and I couldn’t stop replaying it in my mind.
I kept asking: How would Jesus have me see this differently?
I was guided to sit with Lesson 63—not to “fix” the situation, but to simply marinate in the idea.
I didn’t force anything. I breathed. I waited.
And slowly… related thoughts began to rise.
Thoughts like:
- “I am here to bring peace to conflict.”
- “My value is not determined by anyone’s words.”
- “I am love—unharmful, untouchable, unbreakable.”
- And with that… the story started to lose its grip.
I realized: Of course I want to forgive. This person knows not what they do.
And what they stirred in me was actually a gift—an opportunity to correct my beliefs about where my value comes from.
That’s when peace came.
Not because I did something—but because I listened.
When Peace Comes Through Listening, Not Doing
So if your mind wanders—that’s okay.
Gently return to your breath.
Return to the lesson.
And if no related thoughts come right away—that’s okay too.
Just sit in trust. Your willingness is enough.
The Holy Spirit will meet you in that space.
And over time, your ability to hear and receive will deepen.
So, How Do I Do Lesson 63 Again?
Here’s how to approach Lesson 63:
- Begin and end the day with the idea.
- Recall it as often as you can throughout the day.
- Take quiet time to listen for related thoughts.
- Be gentle with yourself as you contemplate and receive.
We are not meant to direct the lesson toward specific people or events.
We are meant to listen… and allow the Voice for God to guide us.
